The essentials
The immigration medical exam (IME) is a health assessment required by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) as part of an immigration application. It must be performed by a physician designated by IRCC: no other doctor can do it. The exam covers a physical assessment, blood work and a chest X-ray, and usually takes one to two hours. At Clinique Immigration Luso in Montreal, all three are done on site in a single visit, and the results are transmitted directly to IRCC electronically and securely, so you send nothing yourself. For refugee claimants and protected persons, the first exam is covered by the federal government. For all other applications, it is payable to the clinic. The exam is by appointment.

What is an immigration medical exam?
It is a health assessment required by IRCC as part of an immigration application. It is performed by a panel physician, and the result is sent directly to IRCC.
How long does the exam take?
Allow between one and two hours. That covers the physical assessment, the required tests and the discussion with the physician. The exact duration depends on the tests required in your case.
When will I get my results?
Your results are sent directly to IRCC after your exam. You send nothing yourself. If further information is needed, our team will contact you.
How much does the exam cost?
The price depends on the exam required and is confirmed when you book. For refugee claimants and protected persons, the first immigration medical exam is covered by the federal government. A repeat exam, a follow-up or additional tests are paid by the patient in every case, including after a covered first exam.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes. Exams are by appointment. Same-day openings are sometimes available, depending on the schedule.
